The cultivation of flax is of great ethnographic value and is present in the popular culture and intangible heritage of the entire community. Like most agricultural activities in Galicia, it was mainly carried out by women, who today keep the local forms of production and processing alive in their memory.
From Vilaseco we try to listen to and recover the knowledge of women like Clotilde and Matilde (from San Cristovo), Ofelia and Luisa from Penasillás or Consuelo from San Pedro de Viana. All of them can boast that they remember the long process of transforming the linen and that they know how to use each of the tools required.
On the basis of these testimonies and previous research carried out by the archaeologist Manuel Rodríguez Calviño, we have carried out this traditional activity, recovering the memory of rural women in the production of a sustainable and local product.
