The 12 Miradas workshop with Irene Kopelman coincided with the artist's stay in Galicia. She was invited by the MUV FMJJ to carry out an artistic residency to research the limnological character of the river Sil, about the factors that determine the evolution of its landscape. In this way, a collaboration was established between the MUV FMJJ and 12 Miradas for the realisation of the workshop.
The artists Andrea Dávila Rubio (Boiro, 1995), Carla Souto (A Coruña, 1994), Berio Molina (A Fonsagrada, 1979) and Marina González Guerreiro (A Guarda, 1992) worked together on Kopelman's artistic practice through landscape observation, drawing, photography and texts.
During the drawing sessions, guided by Irene Kopelman, the participants walked several routes from Boán (Chantada) to the uninhabited village of Chouzán, which gave rise to different creative processes of analysing the environment, interested not only in the implications of the landscape but also those derived from the social construction of the territory.
During the following six months, Irene Kopelman was in contact with the artists, giving shape to the approaches that emerged during the workshop, the result of which is the exhibition Snapshots de Chantada.
Irene Kopelman
Irene Kopelman was born in 1974 in Córdoba, Argentina. She studied at the School of Fine Arts of the National University of Córdoba, where she graduated in painting (1994-2002). In 2002, Kopelman was accepted into the two-year international residency programme at the Rijksakademie van beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. She currently divides her time between Amsterdam, Argentina and the regions where her work and research takes her.
In the Netherlands, Kopelman began to explore representations of landscape as recorded by naturalists in the 18th and 19th centuries. This period of exploration during the Enlightenment is richly archived in museums around the world.
